Cast Iron Llama
Inspired by the form of a llama, I wanted to use the weight of cast iron to make a sculptural figure for my yard. Sand casted locally at Cumberland foundry, a third generation foundry, the llama weighs in over 80 pounds. The mold for the llama was made by hand carving the llama out of poplar wood and then splitting it down the middle. The two parts of the wooden llama were then mounted with locating pins on the the patterning board where it was then painted and attached with the proper gating for the foundry to pour the molten iron into.
